Why? It's a hobby, I already have my regular opponents and new suppliers seem to be springing up regularly - maybe the hobby is doing OK.
2. This guy runs a store - hobby business. I can see why he has a vested interest.
3. A bit of a "Groucho club" thing. Some of the loudest evangelists project an "I don't wish to join that club" impression.
SteveHolmes11https://www.blogger.com/profile/17392212343858957364noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3985121092777596782.post-39550465008024456302016-05-29T13:52:54.315+02:002016-05-29T13:52:54.315+02:00GW seem to have lost the main gateway for the youn...GW seem to have lost the main gateway for the younger player to Flames of War and X-Wing

IanIanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17113835961977211021noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3985121092777596782.post-57052587209607654032016-05-27T18:31:09.612+02:002016-05-27T18:31:09.612+02:00Great points - I think the hybrid board/miniature ...Great points - I think the hybrid board/miniature games will be the new gateway. I think GW used to do a great job bringing young people in, but that has changed in the last few years due to the excessively high prices of Warhammer (Fantasy and 40k) models. I see very little new blood coming in to my local Warhammer scence. The typical GW player seems to now be in their late 20s to mid 30s. Not as old as historical miniature players, but not teenagers anymore. Star Wars X-wing seems to be picking up the younger crowd. I speak to some of these folks at my local game store and they cite GW pricing as prohibitive.
Drunkencorgimasterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03147680777434274857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3985121092777596782.post-58078599973141274272016-05-25T13:26:09.385+02:002016-05-25T13:26:09.385+02:00Although I do agree with you on being better syste...Although I do agree with you on being better systems out there than Warhammer, GW does a very good job at luring teenagers into miniature wargaming. I don't think any other company currently has that same amount of clout. Despite my kids (21 and 16) having lived surrounded by the hobby, I haven't been able to attract any of the two into it.
What to do? Thinking about transforming the club into a house for elders (no kidding, this week the first club member and close friend took early retirement) and creating a foundation to manage our books, models and other gamiong materials once we passed away (again, no kidding: I don't want my heirs to sell for nothing or simply throw away my legacy)
Anibal Invictushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00574972963418062956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3985121092777596782.post-41599466773105548742016-05-24T16:14:17.804+02:002016-05-24T16:14:17.804+02:00Well said sir, I couldn't put it better myself...Well said sir, I couldn't put it better myself (and I have tried)MikeHhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02522208512377161699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3985121092777596782.post-81927920264542615602016-05-24T16:02:14.577+02:002016-05-24T16:02:14.577+02:00Phil,

So many wargames bloggers talk about their games with their children...whether wargames, boardgames or hybrids...that it seems gaming of some description seems to be a normal part of their family life. Those same kids will probably drift away from gaming in their late teens and twenties (as a lot of us did...I certainly did) but they'll be back in their thirties and forties.
