Fantasy Battlecry/Memoir 44

I mentioned before that I was working on a fantasy version of the Battlecry / Memoir 44 engine. There are various reasons for this:

1. I have a large collection of 25mm fantasy figures
2. I like the BC/M44 engine
3. The DVD release of LOTR/ROTK has stirred my interest in fantasy games.

My first attempt at writing down the rules is in the attached pdf file. It is still a very incomplete document, but any comments are welcome. I was planning to run a few games during the Xmas break. More news too follow ...

Te Wapen, Phil's 1st draft on fantasy BC/M44

  1. The return of Te Wapen (I still have a copy of the original, 1996 vintage version in my files somewhere)!
It looks good at first sight. I had some trouble parsing the unit stats (notably the multiple values for ranged combat units and the cryptic entries of 'no' for combat dice next to equally cryptic entries in the move column), but that is probably due to my relative unfamiliarity with the Battlecry system, and the draft state of the rules. Otherwise, it looks like a good effort, and I'd like to participate in the play tests.
BTW, do you know that if I combine the Blade of Riducilous Strength with the Banner of Ludricous Potency I can only be hit on a 7+ and always hit my target :) ? (For everyone else: this last is a reference to an in-joke even Phil might have trouble remembering).

  2. Good idea, and the system probably lends itself more to fantasy than to WW2, where it is a bit too simplistic in my opinion.
Still looking forward to a game at your place, Phil ;)

Hmmm, I don't seem to remember this at all ... not along the lines of the DDZAB club, is it?

  4. Phil,

Not quite DDZAB, no. To jog your memory, think a teenager raving about your rules and applying what can only be termed as an experienced munchkin attitude to them.

  5. Phil,
    Have you seen this:

    Alan,
I'm expanding the M44 WWII rules by adding more infantry-, vehicle- and weapons types. I've also found a variant with more (specific & different) dice (artillerie, support etc). I'm blending all this (and some extra cards) into a set that (although retaining the M44 flavour) is a more elaborate set of rules.
